Modernising the Payment Process in the Red Bull Arena
The stadium experience depends on seamless processes at every touchpoint—whether ticketing, catering, or merchandising. In the Red Bull Arena, with a capacity of around 47,000 seats, the payment system needed to withstand not only everyday demands but also exceptional situations, such as major events and sold-out matches. The aim was to make the payment process flexible, fast, and straightforward for all visitors.
RB Leipzig entered into a strategic partnership with Unzer to systematically enhance its existing payment processes. The focus was on:
For our fans and visitors, our goal is to make the experience as convenient as possible. And that begins with how I buy my ticket, order my food, and ultimately pay—ideally by using an integrated payment solution.
Johann Plenge, CBO at RB Leipzig
The system proved itself during the UEFA Conference League Final 2026: Over 55,000 transactions were processed in a single night, with no significant waiting times or outages. The unification of payment processes now results in shorter transaction times, improved convenience, and a much wider choice of payment methods for all stadium visitors. Staff also benefit from simpler and more efficient workflows.
We have found a partner with whom we can test and develop further in order to create a state-of-the-art experience for fans and customers.
Pascal Beij, Chief Commercial Officer at Unzer
The collaboration between Unzer and RB Leipzig is an example of how modern payment solutions can sustainably enhance the fan experience in stadiums. With secure, flexible, and speedy payment processes throughout the Red Bull Arena, comfort and efficiency are optimally combined—as proven by more than 55,000 successful transactions in a single evening.
