This year, the games took place from 19–24 June. The organiser, Special Olympics Germany (SOD), is officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a sporting organisation for people with intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics Germany brings around 4,000 athletes together at the Special Olympics National Games Berlin 2022. The event is a meeting place for people with intellectual disability. Participants of all levels and in 20 different sports can secure their starting place at the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023. Delegations from a total of 13 countries will be in attendance. The games are an important milestone in the build-up to the 2023 event, which will be the world’s largest inclusive sports event.

In addition to the competition between international athletes, visitors can enjoy famous sights in and around Berlin, as well as the capital city’s diverse cultural offerings.
