With its compact cargo bikes, entirely manufactured in Germany, muli cycles sets new standards for sustainable mobility. The bicycle manufacturer not only drives the urban traffic transformation forward with its mini cargo bikes but is also a prime example of a company with a clear stance. The bicycles are produced in the “Fair Factory” in the heart of Cologne. Muli cycles relies on recycled and recyclable materials, sustainable supply chains, and a supportive community of 80 employees. Already, the brand founded in 2016 has achieved cult status. The products are available through the webshop, the factory store, and specialist retailers. Unzer supports muli cycles with its payment solutions to provide customers with an optimal payment experience.
Together to success – with a payment partner for today and tomorrow
Like all young companies, muli cycles faced the challenge of finding reliable partners. Just two years after its founding, the company had already won its first startup and design awards, which caused the popularity and demand for muli cargo bikes to soar.
Parallel to building a network of dealers, the founders focused from the beginning on direct sales via an online shop. As part of optimizing the shop, the team began searching in 2019 for a suitable payment partner. Unzer convinced them as a German payment service provider with a broad range of solutions for all sales channels. From the start, the team also had scalability for international orders in mind and looked for a provider that supports sales across Europe.

The high-quality, durable muli models come at a price. To lower the purchase barrier for potential customers, muli cycles offers both invoicing and installment payment options through Unzer. For an optimal checkout experience, both payment methods have been integrated as a white-label solution.
The payment process and subsequent communication – invoices, payment reminders, customer portal – take place entirely in the look and feel of muli cycles. Unzer does not appear, and customers do not need to register with the payment provider to complete the purchase. “We deliberately decided against branded BNPL providers. Our customers should have a seamless checkout experience that strengthens their trust in our brand,” explains Sören Gernhardt, co-founder of muli cycles.
Since the introduction of BNPL options, the rate of purchase cancellations has dropped significantly. With Unzer's secured invoice and installment purchase, the company additionally benefits from a payment guarantee. The purchase amount is paid out to Muli Cycles immediately after the order is shipped. Unzer assumes the risk of payment defaults and handles accounts receivable management.
For multi cycles, BNPL is essential for better conversion. The fact that Unzer takes over risk and receivables management relieves us enormously.

Additional boost through new direct transfer
Over the past 20 years, many consumers had become accustomed to fast, direct bank payments via Sofortüberweisung. After the disappearance of this payment method, a gap has emerged in the range of payment options in many online shops, which could potentially lead to more abandoned purchases – but not at muli cycles.
With the relaunch of the online shop in 2025, Unzer's direct transfer was integrated as the successor payment method. The solution was developed by Unzer in cooperation with Mastercard: here, too, customers can pay quickly and conveniently via their bank account. Common two-factor authentication methods such as TAN, fingerprint, or facial recognition make the payment particularly secure. Muli Cycles receives immediate confirmation as soon as the bank authorizes the payment and can ship the goods. Another example of how the company makes every effort to make the shopping and payment experience as effortless as possible for customers.
