Berlin, June, 16th 2025 Unzer, a leading payment platform for small and mid-sized businesses in Germany, Austria, and beyond, has teamed up with the European Payments Initiative (EPI) to support the rollout of Wero – Europe’s newest digital payment method.

Wero is a mobile-first wallet that allows for instant, account-to-account payments, aiming to offer an easy, secure and sovereign way for people to pay and shop across the continent.Launched in Summer 2024, it’s already available for person-to-person payments in Germany, France, and Belgium, and will soon expand to support e-commerce, mobile commerce and point-of-sale transactions.

We see great potential in Wero and hope that many customers will embrace the solution.

Robert Bueninck, CEO at Unzer

As a Principal Member of EPI, Unzer will help merchants easily connect to Wero services as they become available, starting with e/m-commerce later in September 2025. These will be accessible through Unzer’s integrated platform, UnzerOne, allowing businesses to accept Wero across all sales channels without having to deal with multiple payment providers or complex tech.

For Unzer, this partnership is a natural step. By integrating Wero, Unzer strengthens its mission to simplify commerce and accelerate digital adoption for small and medium-sized merchants.

Robert Bueninck, CEO at Unzer, said: “Joining Wero is an exciting step for us and for the merchants we support. It means we can offer them a payment method that’s local, secure, and built for Europe. We’re proud to help bring Wero to market and integrate it seamlessly across all channels.”

Unzer's strong network of merchants and flexible platform make them an ideal partner for bringing Wero to life in everyday transactions.

Martina Weimert, CEO of the European Payments Initiative

Martina Weimert, CEO of the European Payments Initiative, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Unzer into the EPI community. Their strong network of merchants and flexible platform make them an ideal partner for bringing Wero to life in everyday transactions – whether that’s buying coffee in the morning or shopping online in the evening. Together, we’re committed to making payments more connected and convenient across Europe.”
