Germany’s leading women’s shoe brand relies on Unzer’s payment diversity to offer preferred methods to customers in over 25 European markets.
Tamaris.com is a popular online shop for shoes, clothing, bags, and accessories, offering a wide range of products loved by women. Part of the Wortmann Group, the brand is growing rapidly and has big plans for the future—both in Germany and across Europe. For Tobias Hankemeier, Commercial Manager Retail, one thing was clear: the team needed a payment partner that could provide operational support and help implement its ambitious plans step by step.

For Tobias Hankemeier, Commercial Manager Retail, one thing was clear: the team needed a payment partner that could provide operational support and help implement its ambitious plans step by step.
“Every customer is unique—even in how she wants to pay,” says Tobias Hankemeier, Commercial Manager Retail at Tamaris. Best Agers who prefer credit card payments are just as much part of Tamaris’ target group as Gen Z, who embrace new digital methods.
When the fashion retailer started looking for a payment partner, the team already had years of e-commerce experience—the online shop launched in 2012. They knew how crucial a seamless checkout was for successful conversions. Tamaris wanted a partner offering a wide range of payment options while prioritizing the needs of both the retailer and its customers. That’s exactly what Tamaris found with Unzer. As a payment specialist, Unzer provides all major payment methods across Europe. In addition to credit card payments, Unzer implemented local payment options in individual markets—from iDeal in the Netherlands to Przelewy24 in Poland. Later, Apple Pay was added to meet new payment trends.

The checkout is the final, important step. If the customer doesn’t experience a smooth process and finds her favorite payment method, she will abandon the purchase at the very last moment.

Alongside successful expansion into 25 additional countries, Tamaris placed special emphasis on optimizing its shop in its home market, Germany. In German e-commerce, invoice purchase has traditionally been one of the most popular payment methods. Unzer explored the additional revenue potential of “Buy Now, Pay Later” for the fashion industry in today’s economic climate in a study with ECC Cologne: The majority of surveyed retailers stated that this payment option increases spending willingness and reduces purchase hesitation.*
At Tamaris, this method holds particular importance. “In 2024, every second purchase was completed via invoice,” reports Tobias Hankemeier. Tamaris uses Unzer’s white-label invoice solution, allowing the payment process to look simple and trustworthy. The entire payment flow matches Tamaris’ look and feel, without redirecting to an external site. Unzer remains in the background, strengthening Tamaris as a brand.
For online shops aiming to succeed in Germany, invoice purchase is, in my view, a must-have.

The collaboration with Unzer has been a success story not only from a technical perspective. The entire project team felt well supported by Unzer as a payment partner from the very beginning—from the initial offer to the completed implementation.
“We could always rely on Unzer. The highly competent support during onboarding and the excellent coordination among all project participants worked perfectly. We were always fully informed about the implementation status by Unzer’s technical contacts or our Key Account Manager. Smooth coordination during such a sensitive process in an online shop is absolutely critical for success,” summarizes Tobias Hankemeier.
Other brands in the Wortmann Group—such as Marco Tozzi, Caprice, Jana, and NEWD—also choose Unzer as their payment partner for expanding their online presence.
