Dr. Max Steiger appointed as new Chief Compliance Officer at Unzer

Dr. Max Steiger joined the Unzer team on March 1, 2021. For those of you not yet familiar with him, allow us to introduce our new Chief Compliance Officer.

Unzer is delighted to welcome a new, strong member to its management team. As a compliance professional, Dr. Max Steiger is a valuable asset to Unzer with many years of experience and expertise in the financial services sector. Prior to joining Unzer, he spent 17 years working in a global banking group, where he performed a wide range of duties in the fields of compliance and anti-financial crime. As an expert in his field, Dr. Max Steiger is a much sought-after contact - both in the German compliance community and beyond. He also boasts extensive experience of team management, implementation of compliance programs, as well as communication with both internal and external stakeholders. We spoke with Dr. Max Steiger, asking him why he chose to join Unzer and what duties he will be assuming in his new role.

Dr. Max Steiger, what motivated you to join Unzer?

"Unzer is one of the most dynamic FinTechs in the field of payment service providers, making it the place to be. I am delighted to support the company in expanding its compliance operations. In many respects, Unzer is also undergoing an exciting transformation into a leading partner for all omnichannel solutions. My future task will be to help in this regard."

So where exactly do you see the journey taking both you and Unzer in future?

"We are planning to further expand compliance operations at Group level. In particular, this involves incorporating the regulated units in Luxembourg and later also in Denmark. Our objective is to continuously professionalise the company's compliance function. For me, this also means promoting the entire added value chain associated with compliance and my role. This will involve consulting, decision-making, training and monitoring. Compliance must be seen as an integrative program, so that it can help preserve a company's culture and integrity."

Can you tell us anything interesting about yourself?

"I have a strong connection to the region in and around Heidelberg - not just because of my move to Unzer. I am a child of the Electoral Palatinate. In fact, the Palatinate area on the left of the Rhine river, also known as the "Tuscany of Germany", is the centre of my life – as well as being the best wine-growing region in the whole of Germany."

Many thanks for taking the time to talk with us!
