Berlin, July 1, 2024 - The payment company Unzer is expanding its range of payment methods to include TWINT, the leading mobile payment solution in Switzerland. This integration allows Unzer's merchants to seamlessly incorporate TWINT into their online whole checkout process, significantly improving the shopping experience for consumers.
“We are delighted to add TWINT to our already extensive range of payment methods. This provides our merchants another important payment scheme for further expanding their business in Switzerland and acquiring new customers. Additionally, it helps our Swiss merchants offer their customers one of the most relevant local payment methods”, says Pascal Beij, Chief Commercial Officer at Unzer.
TWINT is recognised as the most popular mobile payment method in Switzerland, allowing users to link their bank account to the TWINT app and make secure payments both online and in-store. It also enables real-time peer-to-peer transactions. According to the company, TWINT has over 5 million active users, more than half of Switzerland's population. In 2023, over 590 million transactions were processed with TWINT.
According to the Swiss National Bank, 84% of all payments at restaurants, retail stores, accommodations, and vending machines are contactless. Hence, instant payment solutions like the mobile-based instant payment scheme TWINT are becoming increasingly popular among consumers, and Unzer caters to their needs.
Unzer supports their merchants with a checkout portfolio that is tailored to their online needs. With TWINT, the payment provider takes it a step further for Swiss customers to provide a seamless payment experience for online transactions. This functionality extends Unzer's Buy Now, Pay Later product (BNPL) “upaylater”, which has already been established on the Swiss market. upaylater– as the name suggests – allows consumers to make purchases and pay for them overtime (instalments) or at a later stage (invoice). It provides a flexible alternative to traditional credit, making it easier for them to manage finances while purchasing desired products immediately.
Combined, the two products enable merchants with a more extensive portfolio of payment options that they can offer. This ensures a higher level of flexibility and convenience for their consumers from Switzerland.
As online and offline channels merge, Unzer offers Unified Commerce. Unified commerce allows consumers to enjoy the same shopping experience regardless of channel and where their customer journey starts and finishes. This way, businesses have one single source of truth for their product, inventory, order and consumer data across all touchpoints, which helps them to better serve their customers. The prerequisite for this is the UnzerOne platform. This central hub provides businesses with real-time data and intuitive dashboards. The result is complete transparency for merchants and consistent experience for customers.
Unzer provides payment and commerce solutions for businesses and organisations across Europe. With the UnzerOne platform, companies can access and use customer, sales, and product data in one place and in real-time. Thanks to the reliable and transparent data source in the cloud-based backend, merchants better understand the wishes and requirements of their customers and save time and money through more efficient processes and secure payment integration. At the same time, customers benefit from a consistent and personalised shopping experience that gives them the flexibility to choose how, where, and when they pay.
More than 85,000 merchants from all over Europe use Unzer's products and services. The company employs staff in eight branches in Germany, Austria, Denmark, and Luxembourg.
